Diabetes may result in hair loss for many difference reasons. People with diabetes are very susceptible to skin problems, which often lead to hair loss. Some of these skin problems, like bacterial and fungal infections, affect many people, but diabetics get them more easily and more often. Other skin problems, like diabetic blisters, diabetic dermopathy, necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum, and eruptive xanthomatosis primarily affect diabetics — most often on their extremities.

Because of poor blood circulation, diabetics also heal more slowly and scar more often from injuries, cuts and scrapes.

Diabetes can also lead to many other problems, like hormonal imbalances, kidney disease, and weight loss, that can also cause hair loss.
